Register of food and drink producers mooted
PLANS to create a register of all Rhondda Cynon Taff food and drink producers have been put forward in a bid to encourage people to buy more local produce.
A notice of motion has been submitted by the Plaid Cymru group for consideration by full council this Wednesday.
The motion says that: “We should all play our part in supporting our local economy and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) who make up the majority of it.
“In an effort to better support our local food production companies, this council will create a food produce register.
“The register will list all local food and drink producers in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf with the aim of encouraging and promoting an increase in the marketing and consumption of local produce, thereby supporting the local economy.”
If the motion is accepted by council, the issue would then be referred to the finance and performance committee so the register can be to set up.
The full council meeting starts at The Pavilions, Cambrian Park in Clydach Vale at 5pm. on Wednesday, October 24.
