Choir to perform at stadium for internationals
A CYNON Valley choir is set to perform at the Principality Stadium during this autumn’s rugby internationals – just six years after being formed.
Cwmdare Voices will be singing as part of the pre-match entertainment at the stadium for Wales verses South Africa on November 24, and for the 40-strong choir it’s a dream come true. Secretary Matthew Burford said: “The choir was founded by a group of regulars who all enjoyed a weekend sing-song after a few pints at the Ton Glwydfawr pub in Cwmdare.
“But what started as a bit of fun quickly developed and we have gone from strength to strength under the leadership of our musical director Dr Michael Thomas.”
The choir has been busy singing at venues as diverse as churches and concert halls both at home and as far afield as Wolfenbuttle in Germany, and in the very near future is booked to tour Australia.
“It’s all a far cry from the early days in 2012 when we used to jokingly refer to ourselves as Only Drunks Allowed,” said Matthew. “But in the back of our minds we always had this dream that one day we might be invited to perform at the Principality Stadium.
“We’re all incredibly excited and it just goes to show what can be achieved with a bit of commitment and effort.”
