PENYDARREN BGC are showing their cup pedigree once again as they reached the quarter-finals of the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Cup.

The Merthyr-based club, who were promoted to the Welsh League at the end of last season, booked their place in the last eight by overcoming Division Three counterparts Pontyclun 2-0 at Ivor Park.

Chris Colvin put Penydarren in front by the break with a cool composed first half finish after an excellent through ball from Conner Kinsey.

Josh Brogden then missed a second half penalty but, fortunately, it did not prove costly for Kerry Mullins’ side who sealed their passage through when Colvin grabbed his second with a neat backheel.

Penydarren enjoyed a memorable run all the way to the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup as a South Wales Alliance club last term, as well as a run to the FAW Trophy semis.

Joining them in the last eight are Welsh League Division One leaders Penybont, who continued their bid for a league and cup double with a 2-1 win at Cwmamman United.

Meanwhile, Cambrian & Clydach were unable to repeat their Nathaniel MG Cup heroics as they went out 3-2 at Undy Athletic. Ryan Hudson scored twice for Undy with Dan Jarman getting their other goal.

In Division One, bottom club Pontypridd Town led twice at Ammanford but in the end had to settle for a point as they drew a topsy-turvy encounter 3-3.

Struggling Taffs Well, who have played two more matches than Pontypridd, are just a point above them after they were thumped 4-1 at home by Ton Pentre.

A brace from Leon Jacka – including one from the penalty spot, along with goals from Aiden ChappelSmith and Josh Maxsimovic, earned the Bulldogs a much-needed win – only their second of the league campaign – and moves them on to eight points.

Elsewhere in Division One Goytre beat Gwent neighbours Cwmbran Celtic 2-0.

In Division Two, bottom side Aberdare Town are still looking for their first win of the season after they were crushed 7-2 at home by Pontardawe Town. Tom Blizzard’s hat-trick inspired the visitors with Liam Griffiths (2), Craig Davies and Garry Taylor – from the penalty spot – also netting.

It’s now 13 games without a win in the league for Aberdare.

Croesyceiliog had their lead cut at the top to just six points but remain undefeated after a 4-4 home draw with Bridgend Street.

Croesy stormed into a 3-0 lead after only 27 minutes and then led 4-2 with just over 20 minutes to play. Zac Osborne netted a hat-trick.

Paul Fowler and Jeff White both bagged a brace for Street with the latter scoring to snatch a point in added time in a memorable comeback.

Abergavenny Town, who have a game in hand on Croesy, won 2-0 at Swansea University.
