Teen is banned from two towns
17-year-old barred from Aberdare and Mountain Ash:
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been banned from entering two Welsh towns.
A criminal behaviour order has been placed on Kyle Townsend, from Hirwaun, banning him from entering specified areas in surrounding towns and villages, namely Mountain Ash and Aberdare.
South Wales Police’s application was granted by Merthyr Magistrate’s Court.
If Kyle Townsend breaches the order, he is committing a criminal offence and faces being sent to a young offender’s institution.
As well as being banned from entering specified areas of Aberdare and Mountain Ash between 6pm and 7am, the order also requires that:
He must not be under the influence of any intoxicating substance in a public place
He must not use any abusive or threatening words or behaviour towards any person in a public place
Local Policing Inspector Rob Blunt said: “The police service works with a number of organisations in order to divert young people away from the criminal justice system.
“However, there are some instances where we have no other option but to take action through the courts, for the sake of the individual and the wider community.
“Criminal behaviour orders really are a last resort – failure to comply with the orders almost certainly result in its subjects being given a custodial sentence.
“I hope that this individual uses this as an opportunity to make some very necessary changes before that happens.”
Any breaches can be reported to police by calling 101 giving reference number 382014.
