A COMMUNITY day has been held to clean up a footpath in Abercynon.

More than 10 bags of rubbish were collected by volunteers working on the path leading from David Dower Close to Tressilian Place, known locally as Farm Wood Path.

They were assisted on the day by the RCT Council’s cleansing team and staff from Cynon Taf Housing Association.

Large household items that had been dumped on the steep bank were also collected. Overgrowth alongside the path was cut and overhanging tree branches were cut back. The paths were cleared of fallen leaves and new litter bins have been installed at either end.

The community cleanup day is the latest in the seasonal programme of clean-up days planned for Abercynon ward by councillors Rhys Lewis and Elaine George.

They say they are committed to doing their bit to improve the environment in their community and ask residents to dispose of their litter and waste considerately. The councillors aim to hold a clean-up day in every part of the ward throughout the year and residents are always welcome to join in.
