Homes plan for school site
PLANS have been revealed to build more than 100 houses on the site of the former Blaengwawr Comprehensive School on Club Street in Aberaman.
THERE are plans to build more than 100 houses on the site of a former school in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
An application has been submitted to the council for 120 homes on the former Blaengwawr Comprehensive School site on Club Street in Aberaman.
The site of the former school and playing fields is located in the northwest of Aberaman, around one mile south of Aberdare town centre and close to the A4059.
The old school building has been demolished and the land has been sold and deemed suitable for residential use.
The design and access statement prepared by Hammond Architectural Limited on behalf of Davies Homes, says that it is a sensitive development which responds to the surrounding built environment and the site’s topography. It also says that it is “an attractive development” which will protect and enhance the landscape and ecology within the site and that it is a safe development.
The statement says it is a suitable scale of development that can be integrated within its setting and accommodated within the existing highway network.
The statement reads: “We believe that through our analysis of the existing context of the site and its’ environment, we have developed a proposal which uses this precedence as the starting point for making a scheme which is entirely appropriate.
“It is considered that the proposal represents a good-quality design solution, which responds positively to the site context and would constitute a reasonable extension to the settlement.
“In addition, it is considered that the development also accords with both local and national policy. Furthermore, the development is considered to accord with policy by being sympathetic to the character of the area and by having full regard to neighbouring amenity.”
