MORE than 70 cases of coronavirus have been identified as potentially linked to the Green Man Festival, which took place a fortnight ago.

Wales’ largest music festival, based in the Brecon Beacons, saw the likes of Little Dragon, Charlotte Church and Gruff Rhys perform between August 19-22.

Organisers said ticket holders either needed to take a Covid passport with them as proof that they were double-jabbed or show a negative lateral flow test result before entering the site.

Public Health Wales, which carries out active public health surveillance around large events, confirmed that positive cases have since been linked with the popular three-day festival.

A spokeswoman for the NHS trust said: “Analysis of contact tracing data gathered by Test, Trace,

Protect has identified 71 Welsh residents with confirmed coronavirus where Green Man Festival was reported as a possible exposure in the seven days before showing symptoms. However it is important to note that these cases are not necessarily attributable to transmission at the festival as Green Man would have been one of a number of exposures reported by cases prior to onset including, for example, socialising outside the festival, travel to and from the festival etc.”

The 71 cases identified at Green Man pale in comparison to the likes of Boardmasters in Newquay, Cornwall, where 4,700 Covid cases were linked to the event between August 11 and 15. Swansea Bay University Health Board said last month that 56 positive Covid cases were linked to Boardmasters.

Similarly more than 1,000 attendees to Latitude Festival in Suffolk later tested positive for Covid according to UK Government figures.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Church has been forced to cancel a festival appearance after being “struck by” coronavirus.

The Cardiff-born singer had been due to headline the Camp Wildfire festival in Kent on Sunday, but revealed in a video posted on Saturday that she had been forced to pull out “due to Covid”.

Posting on her Instagram stories, the Welsh star said “I’m sorry, Covid sucks”.
