PONTYPRIDD Town stripped Llantwit Major of their unbeaten record in the JD South league as they sent them packing 4-0.

Unbeaten in their last 22 league games, Ponty strode imperiously to their biggest most significant win of the season as they moved to within a point of the league leaders in a game that saw both sides lose a player.

Lee Baldock gave the home team a flying start with a goal after a dozen minutes and the pressure then got to the visitors. Kris Evans saw red on the pitch and manager Karl Lewis saw yellow off it.

Sam Johnson made it 2-1 to Ponty at the break and then Gavin Beddard and Luke Gullick piled on the misery for Llantwit with further goals. Ponty them lost James Bloom late on for a second yellow card.

There was later drama at Ammanford where Lee Trundle thought he had secured a point for the home side with his ninth goal of the season in the third minute of added time. That made it 3-3, but visiting Cambrian & Clydach Vale weren’t ready to give up on maximum points.

Lai Whitmore opened the home side’s account in the ninth minute, but it was all square by the break thanks to a reply from Ryan Prosser. Liam Reed sent Cambrian into the leads on the hour, but four minutes later Brett Enoch equalised.

Connor Young then made it 3-2 to the visitors with 15 minutes to go and the 45-year-old Trundle thought he had delivered a point when he made it 3-3 with time running out. But five minutes after coming on for only his fourth senior league outing from Cambrian, 18-year-old hot shot Finn Jones stole the glory with a 95th minute winner.

A first half hat-trick from Jordan Edwards sent Afan Lido into the break in their home clash with Cwmbran Celtic four goals to the good. Liam Griffiths opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

Lewis Iles took his league tally to seven goals with two second half strikes for the visitors and had Tom Meechan hit the mark from the penalty spot Cwmbran could have been back to within a goal of their hosts. Harry Davies’ last minute goal made things safe for the Lido as it finished 5-2.

Second half goals from Matthew Thomas, Arthur Furness and Tom Berry earned Risca United a comfortable 3-0 win over Undy Athletic, while it ended all-square at Stebonheath despite visiting Taffs Well playing with only nine men for 55 minutes.

The visitors took the lead with a goal from Marcus Jones, but two minutes later Travis James levelled for Llanelli Town. Jones then picked up a straight red in the 34th minute and David Lyon followed him to the dressing room for two yellow cards in two minutes.

Taffs Well manager Craig Sampson picked up a yellow card in the break, but Andy Legge’s Llanelli side couldn’t make their numerical advantage pay in the second half and it ended 1-1.
