BRITON Ferry Llansawel extended their lead at the top of JD Cymru South to seven points thanks to their 4-1 home win over Pontardawe Town.

Alex Gammond gave Ferry the lead at the end of the first half before Tom Walters doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute.

Tyler Aylward converted a penalty for the visitors with 12 minutes to go, but Jasper Payne and Tyler Brock finished things off nicely for the league leaders.

Second-placed Llanelli Town drew 1-1 at Abertillery Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds, who lie bottom of the table, picked up their third draw in their last four games.

Sean Cronin opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half, but Kyle Williams – with his seventh goal of the season – levelled in the 79th minute to bag a point for the home side.

Third-placed Carmarthen Town moved to within two points of Llanelli with their 1-0 win at Cambrian & Clydach Vale.

Noah Daley was their matchwinner with a 34th-minute goal.

Holywell Town were the big winners in JD Cymru North as they picked up two priceless points on title rivals Airbus UK Broughton and Flint Town United with a 5-0 win at Gresford Athletic.

While the two teams above them were held to draws – it was 3-3 at Caersws where Airbus were the visitors and 1-1 at Flint in their clash with Guilsfield – Holywell closed the gap on league leaders Airbus to five points with four games in hand.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Wellmen, who needed an addedtime goal at the end of the first half from Dan Sullivan to edge them in front.

The second half was a different story with Jake Cooke helping himself to a hat-trick and Morgan Murray also chipping in with a goal.

It took a 94th-minute goal from Sam Baker to salvage a point for the Wingmakers at Caersws after they were twice forced to hit back from a two-goal deficit. Craig Harris and Neil Mitchell gave the hosts a two-goal lead inside 25 minutes, although George Peers clawed one back before the break.

Then Rhys Hesden made it 3-1 five minutes into the second half. Airbus stuck at it and when Brad Knight cut the gap with two minutes left, the pressure mounted on the home defence.

Eventually, Baker banged in the goal that levelled the scores.

At Flint, the home side were forced to come from behind after Jamie Hyne had struck to give ninth-placed Guilsfield a 28thminute lead. That’s how it stayed until just before the hour mark when Elliott Reeve made it 1-1.
