Inspired Drovers click into top gear

-

IT was a day where everything clicked for Llandovery.

Going up against Ebbw Vale, the only side to have beaten them so far this season and who also went mighty close to turning them over in their own back yard, the third instalment was an entirely one-sided affair.

Ruthless Llandovery booked their place in the WRU Premiership Cup final after hitting the Steelmen for six in their semi-final at Aberavon’s Talbot Athletic Ground.

A brace of outstanding tries from full-back Jac Davies, one in each half, inspired a dominant Drovers display in a game they were out of sight in by half-time as they led 29-0.

Fly-half Ioan Hughes, centre Adam Warren and prop Jamie Hughes also

LLANDOVERY ................... 43 EBBW VALE ......................... 7 dotted down before the break with Davies and No. 8 Joe Powell running in second-half scores to seal the deal.

Reece Dunne’s second-half try was scant consolation for the Steelmen and their long wait for a first cup final appearance since 1998 goes on.

Drovers head coach Euros Evans was in the first Llandovery side to win the cup in 2007 and coached the team to a second win in 2016.

He said: “We were really good for the 20 minutes and that was the foundation for a great win.

“Aberavon had done a great job preparing the surface and it was dry, so it allowed us to play our natural game and we enjoyed doing that.

“Sometimes everything just clicks and we were very fortunate it all came off on the day.

“We managed to build a nice lead and it was difficult for them to come back into the game after that. We’re delighted we’ve put ourselves in the position we can go to the final in the Principality and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and get a trophy back to Church Bank.”
