ABERYSTWYTH Town’s unbroken stay in the top flight of Welsh football continues after they defeated Pontypridd United 3-0 to ensure their survival – and send Colwyn Bay down with Pontypridd.

Champions The New Saints beat Connah’s Quay Nomads 2-0 to earn themselves the invincibles tag. Newtown finished fourth.

Penybont snatched the final European play-off spot on a dramatic final day.

Aberystwyth were League of Wales founder members in 1992 and, along with Newtown, have never been relegated.

Pontypridd went into the clash at Park Avenue knowing they will be relegated after their appeal to overturn the refusal of a Tier 1 Licence failed, but a positive result would have opened the door for Colwyn Bay.

Louis Bradford settled Aber’s nerves when he headed home the opener from a Jake Canavan corner on 36 minutes.

Steff Davies doubled their lead on 55 minutes when he scrambled home and Jonathan Evans made sure with a third on 89 minutes to spark celebrations.

That result confirmed an immediate return to JD Cymru North for Colwyn Bay. Steve Evans’ side knew they had to beat Barry Town United to give themselves a chance of capitalising on any slip-up from Aberystwyth.

Bay did finish on a winning note, with Alex Downes’ header seven minutes from time earning them a 1-0 home win.

Penybont secured the final playoff spot on goal difference at the expense of Haverfordwest County after beating the Bluebirds 1-0. The decisive moment came five minutes in when Kane Owen’s cross found Chris Venables, who fired home on the volley.

Bont will head to Newtown in their play-off semi-final.

In the Championship Conference, The New Saints achieved what no other Welsh topflight side has done in more than 25 years and gone through an entire league season without defeat.

Adrian Cieslewicz broke the deadlock on 88 minutes before the Nomads’ Kai Edwards put through his own net.

It secured a 26th straight league victory for TNS, who dropped only four points all season.

Newtown cemented fourth with a 3-1 win at Cardiff Met thanks to goals from Dominic Smith, Aaron Williams and Callum Roberts.

Sam Jones pulled one back for Met, who travel to Caernarfon Town in the other play-off semi.

Caernarfon, who finish fifth, drew 2-2 at home with 10-man Bala Town. Zack Clarke and Louis Lloyd netted for Caernarfon with Naim Arsan and Joe Malkin on target for Bala.
