Pet dog lands driver in dock
A MOTORIST snapped by a speed camera driving with his pet chihuahua in his lap was fined in court yesterday.
Alan Lowther was fined £225 with £75 costs as he admitted not being in proper control of his Jeep. Lowther, 43, was driving to his home in Wallsend, Tyneside, along the A1068 in February when the camera snapped him and his dog Perry.
John Purvis, defending, told magistrates in Newcastle the pet normally sits in the back of the vehicle but “for reasons best known to the dog” had jumped on to the driver’s lap.
Outside court Lowther, who owns a tattoo parlour, said: “A chihuahua on my lap isn’t exactly good for my image.”
