SIR Trevor McDon­ald is to make his last ap­pear­ance on News At Ten next month.

The vet­eran newsreader will stand down af­ter pre­sent­ing cov­er­age of the US elec­tions, ITV an­nounced yes­ter­day.

But he will re­main with ITV1, con­tin­u­ing his work on the Tonight pro­gramme, host­ing the Na­tional Tele­vi­sion Awards and work­ing on doc­u­men­taries.

Sir Trevor, 69, who orig­i­nally quit as an­chor­man in 2005 af­ter 32 years at ITN, re­turned to News At Ten when it was re­launched in Jan­uary.

He will be re­placed by Mark Austin, who will join cur­rent co­p­re­sen­ter Julie Etch­ing­ham.

Sir Trevor said: “I can­not be in the pre­sen­ter’s chair for­ever.”
