Ann spot-on to demand firm immigration regime

Daily Express - - LETTERS BEACHCOMBER -

AT last some common sense regarding immigration. Ann Widdecombe is spot-on with her article (“Forget words, we need action on immigration”, October 29).

I was encouraged a few days ago when Immigration Minister Phil Woolas actually talked sense about limiting the numbers coming here but less than a day later he did the usual Labour U-turn.

We should limit the numbers from outside the EU. At the moment our public services are stretched to the limit. We are now entering recession and cannot afford the necessary increases to the NHS, schools etc. With unemployment rising there will not be enough jobs for the people who are already here, let alone newcomers, so everyone will suffer.
