DIEGO MARADONA will fly to England this weekend to meet Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano of Liverpool ahead of his official appointment as Argentina head coach.
Maradona, who was 48 yesterday, started hatching plans before being installed in his new role officially.
Argentina legend Maradona has not yet been confirmed as his country’s supremo as their FA must ratify his appointment at a meeting next Tuesday. But he has said he will make his debut as head coach in the friendly in Scotland next month.
“I really never expected this although I always dreamed of having the chance,” he said.
Argentina lie third in the South American World Cup qualifying group, ahead of Chile on goal difference.
They must finish in the top four to qualify while finishing fifth would bring about a play-off.
