Palace put Pulis on alert

CRYSTAL PALACE will today offer Tony Pulis the chance to take over from Ian Holloway with the plea: ‘ Keep us in the Premier League’. Former Stoke boss Pulis is the top contender to succeed Holloway, whose 11- month reign as Palace manager ended yesterday after seven defeats in his eight games this season and the club lying one place off the bottom of the Premier League. Pulis was sacked by Stoke at the end of last season, but his experience in keeping the club in the top fl ight for fi ve years on a limited budget fi ts the bill for Palace chairman Steve Parish.

Holloway last night admitted that he had lost the support of sections of his Palace squad and insisted he was exhausted.

He had offered to resign after Monday night’s 4- 1 home defeat by YAYA TOURE was left furious after being subjected to monkey taunts in Manchester City’s Champions League win at CSKA Moscow last night – and he suggested they have their stadium closed “for years”.

Ivory Coast midfi elder Toure called on UEFA to take serious sanctions against CSKA for the behaviour of some of their fans.

Toure, City’s captain in the absence of Vincent Kompany, made the Romanian referee, Ovidiu Hategan, aware of the taunts and after the game City o f f i c i a l s

complained to the UEFA match delegate. They will follow it up with a formal complaint to European football’s governing body today.
