It’s down to Rodgers to turn red tide

BRENDAN RODGERS is under no immediate threat of the sack at Liverpool despite the downturn in results.

Rodgers will be handed the chance to orchestrat­e a transforma­tion in his side’s campaign and retains the backing of American owners, Fenway Sports Group.

Liverpool slumped to their fourth successive defeat in Sunday’s 3- 1 reverse to Crystal Palace and are 12th in the Premier League having fi nished runners- up last season.

Rodgers takes his squad to Bulgaria for Wednesday’s Champions League tie with Ludogorets Razgrad aware they must win to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

However, FSG continue to stand behind Rodgers , believing he is capable of leading a revival.

There is disappoint­ment the Rodgers fi rmly in the spotlight.

Liverpool’s only shot on target at Selhurst Park was the goal Rickie Lambert scored after 89 seconds and, unlike last season, it did not provide a platform for them to go on and dominate. It was the same against Chelsea.

The emphasis has to change to bring more balance, fi rstly, and also allow some confi dence to return .

Rather than breaking Rodgers, the looming period can be the making of him if he unravels some conundrums.
