Excited Katy has ‘ evolved’ since Brand break- up

KATY PERRY says ex- husband Russell Brand hasn’t spoken to her since he filed for divorce four years ago.

The Firework singer, who met the 39- year- old comedian at the 2009 MTV Awards and married him in an elaborate Indian wedding 18 months later, says: “He hasn’t spoken to me since he texted me saying he was fi ling for divorce… my songs will say what I need to say.”

This is the fi rst time Katy has admitted that she hasn’t had contact with Russell who congratulated her on Twitter for her Superbowl performance in February.

Their 2012 break- up turned into humiliation for 29- year- old Katy who showed herself depressed and sobbing on camera during the breakdown of the marriage, which happened while her documentary Part Of Me was being fi lmed.

Katy, who has since dated DJ Thomas Pentz, 36, and singer John Mayer, 37, tells the Sydney Herald that it’s a struggle to balance career and romance.

When asked if it’s hard maintaining high- profi le relationships, she sighs: “I think it can be for a modern woman. I always thought you could have a relationship and success.”

“For a modern woman it’s important to be supported and that there is equality in every aspect. And it’s not two halves that make a whole, it’s two wholes that make a whole.”

However, despite the heartache Katy remains optimistic about love. “I’m excited by whatever it brings,” she said.

“I’m excited by my own evolution. I don’t want to end up bittersweet. I have to evolve.”
