Jose points way ahead

- Tony Banks

JOSE MOURINHO threw his Premier League winners’ medal to daughter Matilde in the crowd at Stamford Bridge – and immediately challenged his team to win the title again next year.

Chelsea celebrated with a comfortable win as Didier Drogba and Petr Cech waved goodbye to the club on an emotional afternoon in west London.

But the manager was already looking to the future.

It was Mourinho’s third title win at Chelsea after triumphs in 2005 and 2006, but he said

that this team have to do more to equal the feats of that side.

Mourinho said: “It’s diffi cult to compare this team with the old one. This team is just at the beginning. This year they have won the Capital One Cup and the Premier League. They have to win more to be better than the other team.

“That is the challenge that I have set them. You can win at a certain moment in your career and that’s it. Or you can win on a regular basis. That’s what makes the difference. Let’s motivate them to go in that direction.”

Mourinho, who held up eight fi ngers at the end to celebrate his eight titles in four countries, said: “I may run out of fi ngers in the future. Let’s go for a ninth and tenth.”

Sunderland, who had secured their Premier League future the previous week, took a surprise lead through Steven Fletcher.

Straight after, Drogba was substituted – and carried off by his team- mates. Diego Costa levelled from the penalty spot after Juan Cuadrado was tripped.

After the break Loic Remy struck twice, fi rst fi ring home Eden Hazard’s pass then fl icking the ball in from close range after Nemanja Matic got to the by- line.

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat revealed afterwards that he has been offered a deal to stay on, saying: “They have said it will be for two or three years.

“Let’s wait until next week and then I’ll make the decision.”
