Tiny Pip… the 4- inch pug

- By Geoff Maynard

AT four inches tall and weighing just over a pound, this tiny pug could be Britain’s – or even the world’s – smallest dog, says its owner.

Joanne Astley says Pip has hardly grown since she was born four months ago and is still half the size of her three other siblings in the litter.

The mother of four, from Dudley, West Mids, reckons the pure- bred pug is unlikely to grow much more.

“She must be Britain’s smallest pug, if not the smallest pug in the world,” she said.

“I couldn’t believe it when she was born she was just so tiny. We took her to the vet but they said she was fine, apart from a cleft lip, and is small.”

The 54- year- old and her engineer partner Steve Madelin, 56, who started to breed pugs last year, have now decided to keep tiny Pip.

“We love our little Pip so much. I thought she was going to grow up quickly but she’s stayed so little.”

She added: “If I take her out I have to put her in my handbag.

“People stop and stare, they can’t believe she’s real. They all think she’s a toy.”
