Alice’s grave restored for Wonderland anniversary

-

THE grave of the real- life Alice in Wonderland is being restored to mark the 150th anniversary of the book by Lewis Carroll.

Alice Hargreaves, nee Liddell, died in 1934 aged 82 and is buried at Lyndhurst, Hants. Her grave needs to be cleaned and repaired.

Alice inspired the author – a friend of her family – to write about a girl who fell down a rabbit hole to entertain her and her sisters when she was a child. The book, which has since been published in more than 170 languages and adapted for the big screen, fi rst came about on a rowing trip they all took together.

Ann Rogers, warden at St Michael and All Angels Church where Alice is buried, said: “We get lots of visitors and want to mark the anniversary.”
