Di Maria still on PSG radar

- Richard Tanner

PARIS Saint- Germain are ready to step up their interest in Manchester United misfi t Angel Di Maria by offering right- back Gregory van der Wiel in a cash plus player deal.

Di Maria’s nightmare fi rst season at Old Trafford concluded on Sunday when his fi rst start for two months lasted only 23 minutes before he limped off with a hamstring injury at Hull.

But that has not deterred PSG from making a second attempt to sign the former Real Madrid star, inset, after their fi rst bid last summer was thwarted by UEFA’s fi nancial fair play sanctions. Those restrictions are still in place with the French champions’ transfer budget restricted to £ 42.5 million this summer.

PSG could try to get round that by offering Dutch defender Van der Wiel plus cash.

United have made a right- back one of their priorities with Nathaniel Clyne of Southampton and Barcelona’s Dani Alves also in their sights.

Radamel Falcao, back at Monaco after his loan spell, is set to be joined on Van Gaal’s exit list by Everton target Jonny Evans, Rafael and third- choice goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.
