Lazy dog walkers ‘ too posh to pick up poo’ get the message...

- By Chris Riches

FED- UP residents have launched a poster campaign designed to shame dog walkers who are “too posh to pick up poo”.

A second poster sarcastically points out that “the Poo Fairy doesn’t live here”.

The mystery signs have gone up in the suburb of Harwood, Bolton, and close to Harwood Meadows primary school. They urge owners to “please clean up after your pet”.

The signs have become an internet hit after they were posted on Facebook. Elaine Smith wrote: “Love the new signs in the alleyway near Harwood Meadows school. Let’s hope that people take notice.” Jackie Greenhalgh said: “It’s disgusting in the morning”. Brad Latham- Holt added: “It is like a minefield along that path.”

But Melanie Berry highlighted a spelling error on one sign – “to posh” instead of “too”.

Joanne Davies said: “I can’t believe how lazy some dog owners are. It’s not difficult to pick it up and carry it home.

“Unfortunately this is not just a problem in Bolton. It does seem to be cleaner in areas that have more bins so come on Bolton Council, give us a bit of support.” The coun- cil, however, has been phasing out dog waste bins over the past five years, describing the cost of bin maintenance and disposal of the waste as “prohibitive”. Dog mess is classed as clinical waste and must be disposed of by incineration.

A council spokesman said: “Due to budget restrictions we are unable to install new dog waste bins. Instead we encourage the public to put their dog waste into any litter bin and it will be collected along with the rest of the litter.”

Councillor Nick Peel said: “It should obviously be properly bagged and if the bin is too full then find another one or take it home.”
