Girlfriend dies in jet ski crash

- By David Pilditch

TRIBUTES poured in yesterday for a young woman who died in a jet ski crash.

Beki Hellens, 22, was killed after a collision with another jet- skier on a popular lake where she was a regular visitor.

It is believed her boyfriend Paul Turner and members of her family witnessed the crash at the South Lake Ski School near St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Last night grief- stricken Mr Turner described Beki as “my beautiful, amazing girlfriend, partner and one true love”.

He wrote on Facebook: “She was doing something she truly loved. I miss you so much it’s hard to breathe. I know we are two halves of the same star destined to be together again. Sleep well, my love XXX.”

Beki, an experienced jetskier, had been enjoying a day out with friends and relatives when the tragic accident took place on July 26. She was sent flying through the air after the collision before being pulled from the water.

Beki, a keen horse rider who worked at a dressage centre, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital where she died. She lived with parents Richard and Belinda, both 46, and brother Daniel in Chatteris, 25 miles from the ski school.

An investigation has been launched and an inquest opened and adjourned.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday. Her father Richard said: “She was always happy. She went happy, with the ones she loved, doing what she loved.”

Police said Beki was taken by ambulance to Bedford Hospital but died a short while later.

Huntingdonshire District Council said it was working with the ski school, police and the Health and Safety Executive to determine what caused the accident.
