Miracle escape for blast victim

-

A MAN was pulled alive from the wreckage after a suspected gas blast almost destroyed a terraced house.

The external walls were blown out and the internal walls badly weakened, leaving the top floor and roof dangerously unsupported.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Trecalgo View in Camelford, north Cornwall, just before 11.30pm on Tuesday.

The man was freed from the burning debris and was yesterday recovering in hospital.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police said: “The only occupant of the house is believed to be in a stable condition and his next of kin have been informed.

“No one else was injured despite the houses next door and nearby cars being damaged by the blast and flying debris.”

Police are investigating the cause of the blast.
