No doubts over Jonny

GARETH McAULEY says his new West Brom defensive partner Jonny Evans will be ready to answer the call if selected for Northern Ireland’s “pivotal” game in the Faroe Islands tomorrow.

“Jonny was in a diffi cult situation at Manchester United, not playing many games,” said McAuley. “But I am delighted he has joined my club.

“From watching him in training with Northern Ireland, he has been sharp, on the front foot and he will have no problems at all.”

Michael O’Neill’s men head into a double- header with the Faroes and Hungary in second place in qualifying Group F, one point behind Romania and two ahead of Hungary, with four games left.

Monday’s game against the Hungarians in Belfast has top billing but McAuley said: “I’ve always thought the Faroes game was pivotal in our campaign.”
