Ant and Dec beat Top Gear in TV awards
TOP Gear went home empty- handed from last night’s TV Choice Awards, losing out to prime time duo Ant and Dec.
The BBC Two motoring programme had been nominated for best entertainment show amid controversy over former host Jeremy Clarkson’s dismissal earlier this year for punching a producer.
It was the fi nal series for him and his fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond, although the show returns later this year with Chris Evans at the helm.
The former Top Gear trio have signed a £ 160million deal for a motoring show with Amazon Prime. The BBC programme was pipped by favourites Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
They scooped prizes for best entertainment show for Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, as well as best reality show for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! And they won best talent show for Britain’s Got Talent, which they both front. Broadchurch was the oth- er big winner at this year’s ceremony, which was hosted by Lenny Henry at the London Hilton.
The ITV crime drama was voted best drama series, while star David Tennant won best actor for the second year.
BBC series Call The Midwife, starring Helen George – who is competing in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing – won best family drama.
However, Mary Berry lost out in two categories, having been nominated for best talent show for Great British Bake Off and best food show for Mary Berry Cooks.
