Morgan bother with big brother

- Matt Lloyd

MATTHEW MORGAN faces an uncomfortable meeting with Wales team- mate Gareth Anscombe today after a Twitter spat.

Morgan’s older brother Tom accused New Zealand- born Anscombe of “robbing caps from proper Welsh players”.

Anscombe was picked in the squad ahead of Morgan for Saturday’s Six Nations match against Scotland. But he missed a tackle on Duncan Taylor after coming on as a replacement as the Scots scored a late try.

Tom Morgan, who plays rugby league with South Wales Scorpions, wrote: “Anscombe has got nothing on Matthew Morgan. The Kiwi boy plays like is he wearing a pair of rigger boots. Stuck in the mud # WhatAWasteOfMoney”

Anscombe represented New Zealand Under- 20s but qualifi es for Wales through his Cardiff- born mother. He was named after legendary player Gareth Edwards and arrived in Wales in 2014 after signing with Cardiff Blues .

Tom Morgan later blamed his comments on a “drunken tweet”. However, it is sure to create tensions within the Wales camp when they return to their Vale of Glamorgan base from two days off after the win over Scotland.

Matthew Morgan will also be club- mates next season with Anscombe after agreeing to join the Blues from Bristol.

Rhys Webb’s hopes of a Wales recall against France have received a setback.

The scrum- half has not played for Wales since suffering a serious foot injury during a World Cup warm- up match against Italy in September.

Welsh rugby’s player of the year returned from injury on Sunday as the Ospreys beat Munster 21- 17 in Cork. However, he suffered a head injury in that win and is rated as “extremely doubtful” for Edinburgh’s Pro12 visit to the Liberty Stadium on Friday.
