Taylor lets rip at Kanye rap
TAYLOR SWIFT picked up the much coveted album of the year prize at the Grammy Awards – becoming the first woman to scoop the gong twice.
The 26- year- old singer, pictured left, who also won best pop vocal album for 1989 and best music video for Bad Blood, said: “As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice I want to say to all young women, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.
“But if you just focus on the work and don’t let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you’re going you will look around and know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
Her comments appeared to be a thinly- veiled swipe at rapper Kanye West, who claimed in a track that he has slept with her and propelled her to superstardom. He also used a less- than- complimentary term to describe her, bizarrely claiming she’d given him permission, which was denied by Taylor’s representative.
There was also UK success on the night for Ed Sheeran who won the best solo performance category for his single Thinking Out Loud. The 24- year- old thanked his parents, saying: “They have fl own over for the Grammys for the past four years and every time they go, ‘ Maybe next year’!” Adele was accompanied by a pianist for a rendition of All I Ask from her album 25 but she admitted there were sound issues, telling her 25million Twitter followers: “The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune.”
There was also a special tribute by Lady Gaga to David Bowie, who recently died at the age of 69. Her medley of his hits didn’t go down so well with his son Duncan Jones, who cryptically tweeted: “Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused. Damn it! What is that word?” It is the Oxford English Dictionary’s defi nition of gaga.
