Rape accused on bail moved to Britain

- By Anil Dawar

A TEENAGER accused of taking part in a gang rape in Austria was allowed to move to the UK despite being on bail, it has emerged.

The unidentified schoolboy is one of six reportedly from migrant families who allegedly terrorised a 14- year- old girl for months at a school in Graz and then raped her at least four times in May 2015.

The boys, then aged 14, allegedly dragged their victim out of the girls’ toilets, stripped her and raped her in a medical room.

Yesterday, officials admitted the suspect had moved to Britain with his family even though he was on bail and police had not yet quizzed him.

Prosecutor Hansjoerg Bacher said: “We have not interviewed him because he is in England with his parents. He moved after the case became public although it is not believed the move was connected with allegations. We are in contact with his parents but do not know when he will return.”

The nationality of the missing suspect is not known but five of the six boys are said to be of African origin.

The age of the boys means they can be held criminally responsible under Austrian law.

The Home Office said if Austrian authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant for the boy, it would consider the case.

Ukip MEP Gerard Batten said: “It is ridiculous that a citizen of another country who is on bail accused of a serious criminal offence can migrate to the UK.”
