Lidl set to stride out with jeans for £ 5.99

- By Sarah Ward

THEY are already known for their cut- price groceries and bargain wine but Lidl will this week launch an affordable clothing range that includes a £ 5.99 pair of jeans.

The German supermarket chain, which has more than 630 stores across Britain, will launch its We Love Denim range on Thursday which is set to be one of the most affordable on the high street.

The collection includes 58 different items of clothing, including women’s jeans from £ 5.99 and men’s denim shirts from £ 6.99.

A popular choice for women looks set to be the boyfriend jeans – the loose- fitting style which began to dominate the high street in 2014 in a backlash against super- skinny drainpipe jeans.

Josie Stone, Lidl’s fashion buyer, said: “The buying power of the Lidl group is huge... The savings we make by buying as a group we pass on to our customers.

“Our fashion ranges are based on global trend forecasts and adapted for the UK market.

“All of Lidl’s fashion ranges are curated to ensure they appeal to everyone, from twenty- something graduates to fortysomething mums.”
