Cancer victim Paul Daniels goes home for fi nal farewell
MAGICIAN Paul Daniels has left hospital to spend his fi nal days at home after it was discovered he has terminal brain cancer.
The entertainer, 77, was diagnosed with a tumour after suffering a fall at his Berkshire home last month.
Now his son Martin Daniels, 52, who is also a magician and spent more than 30 years on the stage with his famous father, has said the family are coming to terms with his illness.
Martin said: “Dad’s not going to get any better.
“There’s no treatment which can help him. Doctors haven’t said how many weeks or months he might have – and we haven’t asked.
“He knows things are not in his hands now and we are living in the knowledge every day is a bonus.”
Daniels turned down radiotherapy to return to his Thamesside home to be with his family.
Despite the devastating news the star remains in good spirits.
He has told loved ones: “When it’s your time it’s your time.”
Martin added: “He is lucid, he is able to walk about, go in the garden, watch TV. His appetite is normal.”
Martin, along with his brothers, Paul, 55, and Gary, 46, and their dad’s wife Debbie, 57, have barely left the magician’s bedside.
But the star, famous for the Paul Daniels Magic Show on the BBC, was back to his usual tricks before leaving the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Martin said: “He went round the beds saying hello, making jokes. He was doing a little ditty by the door to the ward saying, ‘ Roll up, roll up, visiting time is over folks’.”
