Joyful legacy of love for literature
A LITTLE while ago I was recalling a very special teacher who infl uenced my life and gave me a love of reading and writing. Mrs Jane Baker, from Somerset, wrote to me recalling a Mr Owen who taught at Lescudjack County Secondary school in Penzance and remembers being transported by such books as Billy Liar and the First World War poets, read to the class with his wise Welsh accent.
“There have been times in my life when escaping with a book has enabled me to deal with stress successfully. I have also been able to pass down the beauty of literature to my two sons and grandchildren. Thank you, Mr Owen.” What a wonderful legacy.
