Leaders betrayed those who fought for freedom

AS someone who landed in Normandy on D- Day+ 2 at age 19, my answer to your correspondent Derek Thompson ( Letters, March 4) is that yes, I do feel I wasted my time. Around 600,000 men died and millions of us spent up to six years defending this country against the Germans, the overwhelming majority of whom were members of or supported the Nazis.

Now our unscrupulous and greedy politicians, started by Tony Blair and now continued by David Cameron have handed this country over lock, stock and barrel to those we fought.

This without a mandate to do so and I believe against the wishes of the majority of the indigenous population.
