Winter’s fi nal icy blast heralds spring

- By Carri- Ann Taylor

TEMPERATURES are set to hit double figures by the weekend, but not before parts of the UK plunge in to a deep freeze.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Scotland and northern England. Britain will shiver through the early part of the week as icy air continues to stream in from the Arctic.

Temperatures will then rise quickly into double figures, producing spring- like conditions this weekend as warmer tropical air moves in, said the Met Office.

“We are expecting to see highs of 12 to 13C, perhaps more if we are lucky,” it added. Today will see snow and ice on high ground in Northern Ireland and northern England.

Tomorrow will see strong winds across much of south- west England and Wales and rain in the South- east.
