A mark of our enthusiasm!!!

I AM wild about exclamation marks!! They are brilliant for adding fizz, buzz and effervescence!! How extremely mealy- mouthed of examiners to dictate they may only be used in sentences containing a verb and beginning with “How” or “What”!!! “How exciting it is!” has to be the dullest sentence ever conceived. Larding it with exclamation marks won’t do a thing to bring it bouncing to life.

“I’m engaged!!!” or “Wow! I fancy you!!” are fairly zingy on their own but immeasurably pepped up with a liberal few dollops of exclamation marks.

Grammar is great. We need it to make ourselves understood. Yet sometimes nothing conveys enthusiasm like the simple exclamation mark and it really is insufferably pusillanimous to seek to deprive our youth of the pleasure of scattering it about their work!
