Thank you Ma’am! Star’s hot tip from Queen

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

THE Queen gave Homeland star Damian Lewis a lucrative tip for a winner at Royal Ascot.

The surprise gesture emerged yesterday as the 89- year- old monarch joined Prince Charles on a tour of one of his Prince’s Trust centres.

Lewis, the English actor best known for portraying US Marine Sergeant Nick Brody in the hit American show, was also at the centre in Kennington, south London, with his wife, the actress Helen McCrory.

They recalled meeting the Queen at a gala dinner at Windsor Castle in April 2013 when the monarch was given an honorary Bafta.

McCrory, 47, who portrayed Cherie Blair on the big screen in The Queen, said: “The last time we were lucky enough to meet Her Majesty she received her Bafta – something both of us are still waiting for.”

And Lewis, 45, remembered: “She gave me a tip for Royal Ascot and it came with a royal seal.”

The Queen never places a bet but is clearly not averse to giving others the benefit of her expert knowledge

The actor, who also starred in Band Of Brothers and Wolf Hall, could not remember the name of the horse but joked about the amount they won, saying: “Enough for a weekly shop.”

The Prince cut a cake on the tour which was held as part of 40th birthday celebrations for the charity he set up with £ 7,400 severance pay when he left the Royal Navy in 1976.

Meanwhile the Queen, in a royal blue coat by Angela Kelly, met young people receiving help from the trust.
