20 years for bully bride who killed husband in knife fury

- By Chris Riches

A NEWLY- WED wife was jailed for life yesterday for stabbing her solicitor husband to death because he was being made redundant.

Sharon Edwards, 42, had been married to devoted David, 51, for two months when he faced losing his job at a Lancashire law firm.

She “liked the idea of being a solicitor’s wife” and was furious when told he could lose his well- paid career, Manchester Crown Court heard.

She claimed he “walked on to” a kitchen knife she was holding and stabbed himself in the chest during a row last August. But a jury took three hours to convict her of murder after hearing Mr Edwards suffered 60 injuries, including stab wounds to his thigh, knee, finger and head.

Jailing the mother of four for a minimum of 20 years, Mr Justice William Davis told her: “You have a violent and bullying nature. This deadly attack with a deadly weapon was the culmination of long- term bullying.”

The court heard Edwards attacked her husband on several occasions.

But he was “besotted” and used make- up to cover up a black eye and bruised lip for their wedding photos.

Mr Edwards admitted to friends his new wife could “knock him out with one punch”, was “a complete nightmare” and was “bleeding me dry”.

They married in Las Vegas last June but fewer than two months later Mr Edwards was found dead at their four- bedroom home in Chorley, Lancashire.

Jurors heard Mr Edwards was “under the thumb” after meeting his wife- to- be in June 2014.

The court was also told she felt “untouchable”, had no need to work, went on frequent holidays and boasted of having three homes. If he lost his job, she could have lost it all.

Besotted

Prosecutor Anne Whyte, QC, said: “Edwards was violent well before his death and David’s response was to tolerate it and not report it to the police. He was besotted with her and felt she was the one for him.”

Edwards claimed her husband had “walked on to the knife” that she had taken from him during an argument.

After the verdict, jurors heard Edwards had convictions and cautions for domestic abuse, including a 2004 attack on an ex- partner, who was bitten and punched in the face.
