1% pay rise in public sector

MORE than one million public sector workers are in line for pay rises of at least one per cent, it emerged yesterday.

The increases were recommended in an independent pay review.

Treasury Chief Secretary Greg Hands said: “Our armed forces, NHS workers and prison officers do a brilliant job serving our country.”

The rise for health workers applies only to England while the rise for the Prison Service covers England and Wales. The Armed Forces pay rise covers the UK.

Latest figures showed the cost of living rose 0.3 per cent last year.
