My nightmares by Thai attack grandmother

- By David Pilditch

THE British grandmother savagely beaten unconscious in a Thai tourist resort spoke about her ordeal yesterday, saying: “I still have nightmares”.

Rosemary Owen, 65, was left for dead alongside her husband and son after a sickening attack captured in CCTV images which were posted online.

The family was celebrating her husband Lewis’s 68th birthday when they were set upon by a drunken gang in a busy street in the resort of Hua Hin during celebrations for the Thai New Year.

Rose, who suffered the most serious injuries including fluid on the brain, left hospital along with her husband to give evidence to a court official.

Still bearing a black eye, the retired hairdresser said: “It is sad that this has happened to me by a small group of Thai people – people who I love.”

The attack happened on April 13 when one of the gang set upon the couple’s 43- year- old son, also called Lewis, after he accidentally bumped into the man spilling his drink.

When engineering boss Lewis senior and Rose tried to reason with him they were also attacked.

The couple were so badly beaten they have been unable to return home to Wenvoe in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. They hope to do so this week.

Mrs Owen praised the support of Thai friends but said: “I’m looking forward so much to seeing my family again.” A trial date has yet to be set.
