A Bonding session for 007 rivals

- By Glen Munro

THEY are both in the running to be the next Bond, but his latest victory over Idris Elba might convince film bosses that Tom Hiddleston is the man to fill 007’ s shoes.

Sharp- suited Jonathan Pine, played by Hiddleston in BBC hit The Night Manager, has been voted the most stylish male TV character – just ahead of Elba’s tough- talking London cop John Luther.

The poll was commissioned by ITV’s Lorraine ahead of the show’s High Street Fashion Awards.

With Daniel Craig claiming he would rather “slash his wrists” than play Bond again, speculation is rife over who will replace him.

But George Lazenby, who played Bond in 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, has backed Elba.

Asked in LA last week whether Elba would make a good Bond, he replied: “It would be a good idea.”

Both actors – pictured together at a celebrity party in New York at the weekend – have downplayed their interest in the role.

Hiddleston said recently: “The thing is the position is not vacant. So, I don’t know that I can answer that question until it is.”

The Old Etonian is said to be the bookies’ favourite ahead of Damian Lewis, Elba and Poldark’s Aidan Turner.

A source claims Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has her eye on the actor, saying: “Barbara initially feared Tom was ‘ too posh’ to play 007, but she has been impressed.”
