PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Animals: The Supervet, 8pm, C4

People can form incredibly close bonds with their pets and when the owner of an eight-year-old cocker spaniel waits tonight to hear if her dog has cancer, it is a painfully difficult time for her. In the other cases seen by vet Noel Fitzpatrick (left) and his team, a young cat seems to be dragging one of its back legs and a springer spaniel arrives in the surgery needing to go under the knife for some complicated work on one of its badly deformed hind legs.

Drama: Coronation Street, 7.30pm, ITV

Jason (Ryan Thomas, above right) is doing some repairs for Gail when he asks Sarah (Tina O’Brien, above left) for some help. However, when she breaks down in tears he is left wondering what is wrong. Elsewhere, distressed baby Harry gives his uncle Nick cause for concern when he looks after him, Billy is disgusted when he catches Lee begging and Kate asks Caz why she is being so secretive about the accident.

Crime: Her Majesty’s Prison: Norwich, 9pm, ITV

HMP Norwich houses more than 750 adult inmates and young offenders at any given time. These men are husbands, sons and fathers who have given up their right to freedom by breaking the law. Some are career criminals used to life behind bars but there are a number for whom this is their first time inside. This documentary details the stories of various inmates, including Liam (left) and looks at the harsh realities of their days. It also shines a light on how important the link between prisoners and their families is, with statistics showing those who maintain ties with the people closest to them in the outside world are far less likely to reoffend once their time inside is up.

Variety: Tonight At The London Palladium, 8pm, ITV

The halfway stage of the series sees Bradley Walsh welcome When The Going Gets Tough and Love Really Hurts Without You singer Billy Ocean to the stage, while there will also be performances from Rachel Platten and Peter Andre. Away from the music, Japanese act Gamarjobat (above) will be impressing the audience and magician Ben Hanlin will be showcasing his talent at the famous venue.

Medical: Never Seen A Doctor, 10pm, C4

Nobody likes visiting the dentist. Similarly, very few are enthralled by the prospect of a trip to see the doctor. And while many of us accept the inevitability of such things, there are some who avoid their health troubles for years. In this new series, Katie Piper (right) meets people who refuse to seek medical help – whatever the repercussions. Tonight, Janice and Greg have a serious dental issue that needs urgent attention.
