Singer Janet Jackson ‘ is expecting first baby at 49’
POP star Janet Jackson is pregnant with her first child at the age of 49, according to reports last night.
The US singer postponed the second leg of her world tour last month after telling fans she was planning to start a family.
Several reports yesterday reported that Jackson, who turns 50 a week on Monday, is now expecting a child with her husband Wissam Al Mana, 41.
The sister of the late Michael Jackson announced she was halting her Unbreakable tour in a video posted on Twitter in April.
She told fans: “We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change.
“I thought it was important that you be the first to know my husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.
“Please, if you could try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders.
“But I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
American TV show E n t e r t a i n m e n t Tonight said a source had confirmed the news of Jackson’s pregnancy. The star secretly wed Qatari billionaire Al Mana in her third marriage in 2012, but did not confirm the news until 2013.
In 2008, Janet spoke about whether she would be open to having children with her thenboyfriend, Jermaine Dupri.
She said: “I would love to have children of our own, but we also would love to adopt. So, we’ll see what happens. It’ll happen some day.”
Bookmakers taking bets on are the already name of Janet’s child. The favourite, if it is a boy, is Michael, after her late brother, at 10- 1 with Coral.
Katherine is the favourite girls name, after the singer’s mother, at 14- 1.
The youngest child of the Jackson family, Janet has sold more than 160 million records.
She has won five Grammys, nine MTV Video Music Awards and 33 Billboard Music Awards, having released her first selftitled album at the age of 15 in 1982.
A spokeswoman for the singer refused to comment.
