School’s now out for Bruno

- By Nick Szczepanik and Jason Mellor

BRIGHTON defender Bruno is avoiding the school run because the other parents at his son’s school only want to talk about the club’s promotion chances.

The Seagulls, third in the Championship table, will be in the Premier League for the fi rst time if they win at second- placed Middlesbrough tomorrow in what is effectively a £ 150 million play- off for automatic promotion.

The 35- yearold Spaniard, right, was handed a good luck card yesterday that classmates of his eight- year- old son Pol made, but otherwise he will be staying away.

“I’m not going to pick up my son, I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “They try to be cool but you can see that they can’t hold back from saying anything.

“But it’s nice to see that feeling. Everyone is so excited, it’s so busy sometimes. But my boy’s taking it well. If we win I can pick him up on Monday.”

Bruno played in the Champions League at Valencia and has played in many needle games.

But he said: “Hearing that Champions League anthem is really special and I was lucky to play other big games but this is the biggest game ever.”

There is renewed speculation that Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is to quit. His side will end a sevenyear top- fl ight absence if they avoid defeat in a season where Karanka was on the verge of leaving in March following a fall- out with several senior players.

A truce was brokered by Boro chairman Steve Gibson, but new doubts about the boss’s plans have seen him speak out.

He said: “I don’t like to say what will happen in the future, but the best way to answer those questions is to say I’ve three more years on my contract. Saying that is enough.”
