Special tribute to legend Sir Terry
SIR Terry Wogan’s life will be celebrated with a special event at Westminster Abbey.
The veteran radio and television broadcaster died of cancer on January 31, aged 77.
Now the BBC has announced a special “service of thanksgiving for Sir Terry” on September 27.
Full details will be released later.
He has already been remembered in a special episode of Songs Of Praise.
Sir Terry was last on air on BBC Radio 2 on November 8. Days later he was forced to pull out of presenting Children In Need at the last minute because of his health. The presenter’s funeral was a private ceremony for family and friends in February this year.
He left a wife Helen and children Alan, Mark and Katherine.
The Limerick-born star was hailed as a “national treasure” and many leading figures paid tribute to the much-loved personality.
David Cameron said he was “someone millions came to feel was their own special friend”.
Broadcaster Simon Mayo said: “There was no-one better at being a friend behind the microphone than Sir Terry.”
