Family mourns soldier
A HEARTBROKEN family has paid tribute to a soldier who was murdered after leaving a pub.
Private Matthew Boyd, 20, was found unconscious and injured by police in a street in Brecon, Mid Wales, on Sunday, at 1am. He died on the way to hospital.
Yesterday his brother Darren, who lives in Gibraltar, wrote on Facebook: “Broke my heart when I heard you were gone. You will Private Matthew Boyd always be in my heart.”
His grandmother Maureen Boyd, from Carrickfergus, County Antrim, said: “We are a broken family. No words for the heartache we are feeling.”
The serviceman with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment was attacked as he made the short trip back to his barracks.
Mr Boyd, from Northern Ireland, was not in uniform.
Police have arrested two men, aged 23 and 22, on suspicion of murder.
