Greggs posts healthy return

A HEALTHY demand for salads, hot sandwiches and flat whites have put Greggs’ sales back on a roll after a soft March when shoppers deserted the high street.

The bakery chain lifted total sales by 5.7 per cent in the first 18 weeks of this year, down from 5.9 per cent growth a year ago. Sales growth at establishe­d stores fell from 6 per cent to 3.7 per cent.

Chief executive Roger Whiteside said: “We have been encouraged by trials of our upgraded range of salads.” Shares rose 29p to 1097p.
