British playboy in kidnap trial held over road death

- From Gerard Couzens in Madrid

THE son of a British millionaire facing trial for kidnap was arrested yesterday over a suspected hit-and-run death.

Westley Capper was detained after a woman was hurled 100ft in a collision with a Bentley.

The 38-year-old playboy is facing trial over the disappearance of a woman in Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

Agnese Klavina has not been seen since she vanished from a trendy nightclub in the up-market resort of Puerto Banus in 2014.

The collision victim was a South American woman in her 40s.

She suffered a heart attack in hospital as doctors battled to save her.

She was crossing a road in San Pedro de Alcantara at around 8pm on Monday when she suffered horrific injuries in the collision.

Investigators suspect the car was travelling at speed as the woman was found so far from the point of impact. Witnesses said there were two men in the Bentley. Capper, whose father John made a fortune selling luxury villas, was arrested with Liverpudlian Craig Porter at a bar in Estepona about 10 miles away. It is understood police recorded Porter’s name and address before letting him go. Capper, from Essex, and Porter, 34, face trial for the unlawful detention of Latvian Ms Klavina, 30, a receptionist. She vanished after meeting the men at nightclub Aqwa Mist in September 2014. Capper told police he and Porter gave her a lift home in his Mercedes. Porter said he was asleep when Ms Klavina got out. Both men were charged with aggravated unlawful detention and face up to 15 years in jail. They deny any involvement.
