Muslim ban: Khan shuns Trump offer
SADIQ Khan has rejected “ignorant” Donald Trump’s offer to make the new London Mayor an “exception” to his plan to ban Muslims from entering the US.
Presidential hopeful Trump, 69, appeared to offer an olive branch when he welcomed Mr Khan’s election as the first Muslim mayor of a major European capital.
But the new Labour mayor, 45, rejected the gesture, accusing the property billionaire of fuelling extremism.
He said the tycoon’s views on Islam could put people on both sides of the Atlantic in danger.
“His ignorant view of Islam could make both countries less safe,” he said. “It risks alienating mainstream Muslims and plays into the hands of extremists.”
After the result Mr Trump said: “It’s a very good thing and I hope he does a very good job.”
