Cults statute may penalise religions too
A LAW to protect vulnerable people from cults is probably long overdue but I simply do not trust our politicians to make sure that it will be sensibly implemented. If such a law is put on the statute book then I fear that any street preacher, any evangelical church or any organisation such as the Plymouth Brethren will be caught in its net.
No government whether Labour or Conservative has in recent years shown any will to protect Christian conscience and I don’t see any sign of that changing. Such a law will almost certainly prove just another nail in the coffin of religious freedom while the cults continue to flourish.
